Thinking vs doing
Imagine that you will make an awesome cake. First, you sit at your computer and started to make an internet search about recipes for that. Then you are deciding to go a place where to get needs like flour, eggs, vanilla, oil, etc. You made a plan and it is show-time! Your brain grows, imagination is starting to act.
How big it will be? How many people will eat it? Will, it tastes good? Then you start to think about decorating, the best cake in the world is coming! After this cake nothing will be the same, you will get the best Instagram shot of this cake and it will be viral in the world. You will get thousands of followers on Instagram even Drake, Rihanna and Billie Elish will start to follow you. People will start to see you as a national hero. Your cake will be taught in primary schools, even the next generations will talk about this national success story of your awesome cake! Wait a second.. Where is the cake? You did already a lot of search and thinking but there is nothing in reality. You know everything about how to make a cake but where is that delicious, awesome food?
This is a good example of thinking versus doing. Most of the time people get stuck on the thinking stage too much, therefore they forget to act! Think about your life, are you spending too much time on searching for solutions? If the answer is yes, something is wrong. After some point, you will become Einstein of the problem that you are trying to solve but there will be still that problem because `finding solutions` is not acting at all. So what should we do?
Let’s think about the scenario that you are trying to cure your loneliness. You made a google search and find 1 advise that says `Improve your social skills`. At this point, you should immediately stop about google search and take paper&pencil for writing things down: `How can I improve my social skills?` then start to write about answers ` I should talk with people more often.` Here is your action, make your aim and start doing. Start with `15 minutes talking with a foreigner ` and increase it weekly. Observe yourself and see the results of the action. If it still doesn’t solve your loneliness, (after you get all benefits from the action ) go back to google search and try second advise. The vital point is to `make your solutions alive`, don’t throw them into `do it later` box.
Blackhole of excuses
Here is your main enemy: `excuses`. I used to call the term black hole because it will exploit your soul and energy every time. Stop excuses! It is totally useless and harmful because it prevents your actions and gives you fake escaping points from problems. For instance, you put your aim `15 minutes talking with a foreigner daily` and your inner voice starts to talk ` Hey you can’t talk with a foreigner, it is not safe , you will be embarrassed , you might vomit when you talk with them , aliens can come to destroy the world, bla bla bla..` As you can see it is nothing but prevention of action. Therefore you should stop excuses and start acting as soon as possible!
To sum up, the famous `Just do it!` motivation has reasonable points behind it. Yes, you need to search for solutions to your problems but you should `do` them afterward. Start with 1 solution, do it and avoid excuses.
Have a nice day!
